How Elppa handles label scans, account info, and diagnostics to run the app and keep your data safe.

Last updated: December 4, 2025

Data we collect

  • Account basics: email from Google sign-in (we don’t store passwords) and preferences to keep your profile synced.
  • Label uploads: photos you submit for ingredient detection, including the text extracted from them. We store them to provide app features.
  • Usage signals: diagnostics like device type, app version, and feature usage to keep Elppa reliable.

How we use it

  • Process your label scans to surface ingredients, explain what they do, and flag concerns.
  • Improve our detection quality and fix bugs in the mobile app and web experience.
  • Respond to support requests and keep accounts secure.

Sharing

  • We never sell your data and we never share it with advertisers.
  • Vetted service providers (e.g., hosting, image processing) only use data to run Elppa and must protect it.
  • We may share data if required by law or to prevent abuse of the platform.

Storage & retention

  • Label files and extracted text are stored securely and tied to your account so you can revisit past scans.
  • We retain data only as long as needed for the purposes above or to comply with legal obligations.
  • When you delete your account in the app, we delete your scans, watchlist, sessions, and account data from our systems. Store subscriptions are managed in your App Store account.

Mobile app specifics

  • Camera access: the iOS app uses your camera (or lets you pick from your photo library) to capture label photos for scan generation.
  • Photo uploads: captured images are uploaded securely to Elppa to extract text and ingredients and other info; this processing happens on trusted infrastructure so we can return results to you.
  • Sign-in options: you can sign in with Google today (no password stored).
  • Diagnostics: device type, OS version, and app version may be collected to troubleshoot crashes and performance issues.

Your choices

  • Delete your account any time in the app (Profile → Danger Zone); this removes your scans, watchlist, sessions, and account data from our systems.
  • Manage or cancel billing in your App Store account; deleting your Elppa account does not cancel store-managed subscriptions.
